Opening of the exhibition "Polish-Estonian relations in 1918–1939"

On 5 May 2021, at the Open-Air Gallery at Al. Ujazdowskie, the exhibition under the title "Polish-Estonian relations in 1918–1939 in the light of Estonian archival material" was officially opened with the participation of the president of Estonia, Kersti Kaljulaid, while on an official visit to Poland; the exhibition reminded the common inter-war history of both states.

The official opening was attended by: Kersti Kaljulaid, President of Estonia, Magdalena Gawin, Under-Secretary of State at the Ministry of Culture, National Heritage and Sport, Martin Roger, Estonian Ambassador to Poland, Grzegorz Kozłowski, Polish Ambassador to Estonia, Małgorzata Grąbczewska, Deputy Director for Museum Affairs as well as representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Culture, National Heritage and Sport and the State Archives.

Common history of Poland and Estonia

The exhibition “Polish-Estonian relations in 1918–1939 in the light of Estonian archival material” was prepared in 2018 as part of the celebrations of the 100th anniversary of regaining independence by Poland and Estonia. Its formal opening took place in the Estonian History Museum in Tallinn. The exhibition was expanded in 2020 on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Estonia and Poland.

The display at the Open-Air Gallery of the Royal Łazienki Museum is the first presentation of this exhibition in Poland. It features precious archival documents and photographs from the period 1918–1939 which depict the common history of Poland and Estonia. During the inter-war period, both countries had, as they are having today, close diplomatic, military and cultural relations, as well as interpersonal bonds.

The exhibition, which consists of 12 boards, touches on issues such as: State visits and receptions, state and military decorations awarded to Poles and Estonians, examples of cooperation in the fields of diplomacy, national defence and mutual economic relations.The exhibition was designed by the National Archives of Estonia on the order of the Polish Embassy in Tallinn. The exhibition "Polish-Estonian relations in 1918–1939 in the light of Estonian archival material" will be shown from 30 April to 31 May 2021 at the Open-Air Gallery at Al. Ujazdowskie, from the gate near the "Niepodległa. Miejsce spotkań" café.
