This official portrait depicts the king in armour and a red ermine-lined cloak draped over his shoulders. The chain on the monarch’s chest and the star sewn onto the cloak are the insignia of the Order of the White Eagle, Poland’s oldest decoration, established in 1705. The portrait of Stanisław August was created in Marcello Bacciarelli’s studio and is based on a lost original.
