This bas-relief profile portrait shows the king in a hairstyle reminiscent of the cadogan (or en catogan) wig — hair combed upward, curls at either side of the face, and a ponytail tied with a ribbon. It exemplifies the high quality of Wedgwood’s output: the factory specialized in relief portraits of living and historical figures rendered in white matt stoneware against a contrasting background, typically blue and occasionally green.
