            Common lilac
                Syringa vulgaris
The common lilac is often referred to as elderberry, though it belongs to another family, the olive family and it is related to the European olive, jasmine or forsythia. The main decorative feature of the lilac are flowers gathered into long bunches. The essential oils they contain are used for the manufacture of perfume.
