The vase is shaped like a baluster, a decorative element in the form of a small column with a pear-shaped bulge at its centre. The body is adorned with two irregularly shaped cartouches set against a gilded ground decorated with peonies. The cartouches feature flowering plants emerging from scholar’s stones on one side and a gourd-shaped double-bulge vase on the other. Semi-relief appliqués in the form of plum blossoms appear below the neck.
