Produced at the Arita manufactory in Japan, where kaolin deposits were discovered in the late sixteenth century, these vases were imported to Europe by the Dutch East India Company and highly prized. Particularly sought after were vessels in the Imari style, featuring blue, red, and gold paint with black outlines. Eighteenth-century inventories confirm that Imari-style porcelain was present at the court of Stanisław August.
