The likeness of Elżbieta Rybińska (c. 1687–1717) belongs to a group of 15 portraits which are traditionally believed to have been acquired by Stanisław August in 1764 from Kasper Lubomirski, together with the Ujazdów estate (for the series see cat. no. 48). The list of paintings which could be found in Ujazdów Castle in 1765 (AGAD, AJP 152, pp. 28–41) does not mention a portrait of Rybińska, although it is possible the Łazienki likeness is one of the 19 ‘portraits of ladies’ recorded there. …
Elżbieta Rybińska née Lubomirska was the daughter of Hieronim Augustyn Lubomirski, Castellan of Kraków, Great Hetman of the Crown, and the wife of Jakub Zygmunt Rybiński, Voivode of Chełmno. … . In the Stanislavian sources the painting was recorded without giving the name of the author, only the entry in the 1784–92 catalogue can be interpreted (although not with any certainty) as indicating the authorship of Ádám Mányoki.
The quality of the Łazienki portrait differs vastly from that of the autograph works by Mányoki. … . [See D. Juszczak, H. Małachowicz, The Stanisław August Collection of Paintings at the Royal Łazienki. Catalogue, Royal Łazienki Museum, Warsaw 2016, no. 70, pp. 264‒266.]
